Reading is beneficial to students because reading is a way to provide comprehensible input in the target language. In this presentation, participants will learn about the power of reading as a necessary input activity in our students’ journey towards proficiency. They will learn how to get student to transition from reading words to sentences to paragraphs.
They will learn what kind of texts are interesting to students, how to scaffold difficult texts to make them accessible and comprehensible to students. Finally, they will learn how to disguise texts as well as different activities and games to get the students to re-read.
We will learn how teachers can select, write, and edit texts that are both comprehensible and compelling for their students. Teachers will also learn tricks to get the students to re-read the same text and strategies to get the students involved in the reading process. Participants will also have time to create an original text and adapt it to various language proficiency levels.
