Agen will be different in 2021 because of the pandemic. Many teachers who would love to come will not be able to because of travel restrictions. We intend to transform this problem into an asset. We are planning a “Do-It-Yourself” conference, where participants will truly be participating in the content and organization of the conference.
An important part of the conference are the morning Language Labs. Some teachers will be students, acquiring a new language. Others will be observers. This year the observers who speak the language will be asked to work with the teacher and participate in planning and enacting the lesson. We are also going to do more “Knee-to-Knee” exercises where observers interact with the Students.
Because of pandemic restrictions, group sizes will be limited and we will be asking participants to sign up in advance for the sessions they wish to attend. If too many people request a presentation, it will be repeated at a later date. The smaller groups will allow more interaction and exchange with the presenters.
Instead of Round Tables, we will feature Discussion groups. The participants themselves will request topics they wish to see treated. So much of the positive influence of Agen has come from informal discussions among people with different experiences, different backgrounds, different problems and very different solutions. We want to encourage and build on these exchanges.
